The ICIA, the Canary Islands Institute of Agricultural Research, opened its doors to us, and thanks to Alexandr Torres Krupij, we were able to learn some very interesting information.

Canarian chickens have evolved with a set of characteristics that distinguish them by their hardiness and resistance to disease.

Most of these birds are raised under a backyard system, where free-range foraging was for many decades the usual feeding practice, so they are perfectly adapted to pecking about in search of grasses and insects.
