Taste 1973, The Restaurant

The culinary concept behind Taste 1973 Restaurant draws on the memory of the island's gastronomy, and especially that of the south of the island, where Europe Hotels International (opens in a new tab) pioneered this project.

"We don't create recipes, we create emotions"

Under the direction of Chef Diego Schattenhofer, the project's vision and mission is to become a culinary reference, both nationally and internationally, offering the discovery of original gastronomic proposals and the enjoyment of a unique meal.

The cuisine at Taste 1973 Restaurant

If we had to define the cuisine at Taste 1973, we would call it asignature cuisine, creative and personal, with innovative gastronomic techniques that bring out flavour. Another aim is to fuse the singularities and history of Tenerife, and particularly of the south of the island, into the cooking.

A kitchen with the infrastructure it needs to stand out

The volcanic origin of our land, and the produce grown in its mineral-rich soils, together with the sea mist that bathes it, give rise to aromas and textures that are characteristic of the island.

As part of its history, Taste 1973 brings in stories from the indigenous world of what is considered pre-Hispanic Canarias; and thanks to encounters with local figures such as historians and goat herders, the restaurant has come to understand that culinary culture and to reproduce replicas of the ancient Guanche pottery with local potters.

To meet this goal, the restaurant has carefully created a dedicated space for research, for experimenting with creativity and innovation (R&D).

"They offer flavour, consistency, technique, a multidisciplinary team (marine biologists, neurologists, historians…) that recovers Guanche gastronomic roots… and a taste for matured fish as a clear point of difference. A magnificent Canarian cheese trolley, with more than 50 varieties!"
