In a recent article published in the newspaper El Día de Tenerife, an unprecedented innovation in the world of gastronomy and tourism has been highlighted, courtesy of the renowned Chef Diego Schattenhofer and his team at the Taste 1973 restaurant, located within the iconic Hotel Villa Cortés in Playa de las Américas, Tenerife.
Edible and emotional perfumes inspired by Tenerife’s rich ecosystemic biodiversity
This culinary avant-garde, sitting at the crossroads of science, culinary art and perfumery, presents a series of edible and emotional perfumes inspired by Tenerife’s rich ecosystemic biodiversity.
These perfumes are designed not only to delight the palate, but also to evoke deep emotions, recreating the sensation of being immersed in the island’s spectacular landscape.

The first of these perfumes captures the essence of Tenerife’s pine ecosystem, with a fresh aroma and resinous notes from pine needles that evoke feelings of relief, serenity, happiness and joy. The second perfume draws on the island’s medianías, its mid-altitude belt, condensing the aromatic diversity of its fauna and flora, as well as its potato, chestnut, fruit and cereal crops, offering a sensory experience that places Tenerife’s gastronomy at the forefront both nationally and internationally.
Presentation in the Salón Noble of the Cabildo de Tenerife
This development, presented at the Salón Noble of the Cabildo de Tenerife, represents an innovative fusion between the perfume, tourism and gastronomy industries, marking a decisive step towards quality and differentiation for Tenerife as a unique destination. The initiative has received praise and attention even from renowned figures such as chef Ferran Adrià, highlighting its potential to revolutionise the culinary experience.
The team at the Taste 1973 restaurant, under the guidance of Diego Schattenhofer, is excited and proud of this achievement and looks forward to creating future perfumes inspired by other iconic Tenerife landscapes, such as its beaches, rock pools and traditional mojos.
This project is not only a testament to the exceptional professional talent and the commitment to innovation in Tenerife, but also an invitation to explore the island through a unique cartography of scents and emotions. As chef Schattenhofer says, “we’re presenting the richness of the island in a unique way, speaking highly of Tenerife and its gastronomy.”
At Taste 1973, we remain committed to innovation, culinary excellence and the creation of unforgettable experiences that stay etched in the hearts of our visitors. We invite everyone to discover these unique aromas and flavours, a tribute to the beauty and diversity of Tenerife.
