A Recognition of Gastronomic Excellence
The Taste 1973 team feels deeply honoured by the recognition granted by the Board of Directors of the Academia de Gastronomía de Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Today, 5 May 2025, during a moving ceremony, our restaurant received the 2024 Annual Award, a distinction that values our work, passion and dedication to Canarian gastronomy.

The Academia’s Decision
The Academia’s Board of Directors, chaired by Lourdes Fernández López, unanimously decided to award this accolade to Taste 1973 after a thorough analysis of all the nominations submitted by the full academicians who make up this prestigious institution.
As stated in the excerpt from Minutes No. 27 of 15 January 2025:
“Taste 1973, located in the Hotel Villa Cortés in Playa de Las Américas (Arona, Tenerife), an exceptional restaurant in every sense, whose proposal, that of Diego Schattenhofer and his team, deserves to be described as vibrant for the fascinating blend it offers between our traditional cuisine and current gastronomic innovation, complemented by in-depth research into the singularities of the produce of our land and its history.”
This recognition reflects our commitment to the fusion of tradition and innovation, always with a deep respect for local produce and the culinary history of the Canary Islands.

A Shared Pride
For Diego Schattenhofer and the whole Taste 1973 team, receiving this honour represents a genuine source of pride and a motivation to keep committing to cuisine with soul, identity and respect for produce.
